History and origins of Raja Boxing

The Raja Boxing brand was founded in Thailand in the second half of the 20th century during the so called golden era of Muay Thai. At that time, the sport was developing clear rules and a more formal structure. The roots of the sport and Raja Boxing are closely linked to the Rajadamnern Stadium in Bangkok, opened in 1945, which became one of the two most prestigious temples of Thai boxing.

The name RAJA means “king” in Thai and refers to the Rajadamnern Stadium. It symbolises the highest level of traditional Muay Thai. From the beginning, Raja Boxing equipment was primarily made for elite fighters who represented the brand in the stadium’s major bouts. Wearing the Raja Boxing logo was a privilege. Raja Boxing became a symbol of traditional style, respect for Thai culture, and an elite level of competition, earning strong recognition in combat sports worldwide.

Raja Boxing still maintains its traditional character today, with classic design, bold colours, and a distinctive Muay Thai aesthetic that sets it apart from mass produced brands. The founder and general manager, Mrs. Maturos Hutasevi, also pioneered the use of “gold” and “silver” leather as well as Thai silk. Raja Boxing was the first to produce this design and has since inspired many companies around the world that try to imitate it.

All products are still handmade, and thanks to their quality and craftsmanship they are approved by official Muay Thai organisations in Thailand.

Thanks to its history, tradition, quality, and approach, Raja Boxing is unique. For many fighters, it is more than a brand. It is a piece of Thai boxing history.
